MISSIONS

Our church believes strongly that we must be the hands and feet of God to help those brothers and sisters who are in need.

El Salvador

El Salvador

Our church has participated in an annual Mission Trip to El Salvador since 2006.It is a Companion Synod with El Salvador which knits us even more closely together. We have people from all over the US, from all age groups (toddlers to seniors in their 80’s) who join us to serve God in many ways. Build homes and churches, work in a community garden for the hungry, feed the homeless in a shelter, work with children in a Lutheran school and provide medical/dental campaigns. This trip changes lives!

Family Promise of South the Bay

Family Promise of South the Bay

Our church is a host church for this non-profit, that cares for local homeless families with minor aged children in our neighborhoods. There are over 3,000 homeless children who have been reported in our local public schools alone. Once a quarter, we provide meals and beds for up to 4 families for one week, from around 5pm until 6am the next morning. We know that God is smiling down on all who support this ministry.

Our Sister Church- First Lutheran Inglewood

Our Sister Church- First Lutheran Inglewood

Our church has been in a sister relationship with this church since approximately 2006. This church is in a low-income neighborhood with many people suffering from homelessness and hunger. We provide funding for their weekly food distribution program. We also adopt several children at Christmas time. We feel very blessed to be in partnership with this beacon of hope in Inglewood.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity

RLC has been involved with supporting local Habitat home builds since around 2005 when Thrivent formed a partnership with Habitat. Since that time, we have built 21 new homes and repaired 15 more homes for hardworking, low income families in the LA area. This project is critical as LA County has the most homeless folks per capita of all counties in the United States.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child

We have been providing gift/shoe boxes to this organization at Christmas time since approximately 1995. This ministry of Franklin Graham has provided over 178 million gift shoe boxes to children in over 160 countries through 2019. This project has brought God’s love and hope in a tangible way to millions of children in war torn countries. We are honored to support this ministry.

Lutheran Social Services

Lutheran Social Services

Our church provides financial support for this organization located in Long Beach. We also donate to this agency through our annual Lent canned food drive.

Love Inc

Love Inc

This national organization provides help for low income people via local churches. We have supported our local chapter since 1991. We provide financial support and adopt families, providing gifts and food for Thanksgiving and Christmas. In addition, we provide backpacks and school supplies for low income students in the summer.

Angel Love and Kisses

Angel Love and Kisses

Our own “sister” Martha Bauman first started making fleece blankets each winter for Project Linus, delivering blankets to children in hospitals. She later determined that she had more flexibility in delivering blankets to other groups, including sick church members, families who were moving away, police who pick up children from abusive situations, etc. by organizing her own blanket making ministry. She welcomes volunteers to help “tie blankets” for her project, and we love being a part of this.
